Cheap Flights to Ottawa

Cheap Flights to Ottawa

The capital of Canada is sited on the south bank of the Ottawa River, opposite the French-speaking city of Hull across the water in the neighbouring province of Quebec. Its main landmark is the 302ft (92m) high Peace Tower. The tower surmounts the imposing Parliament Buildings, which stand in Gothic splendour at the junction of the Ottawa, Rideau and Gatineau rivers. Ottawa is a city of pomp and pageantry with a harmonious blend of French and English culture.

Passport Readers

With passport fees on the rise in the UK, it’s no surprise that the excess cost will also be used to pay for the increase in technology to read the new passports.

The ePassport Reader “scans and accesses data from radio frequency identification (RFID) chips embedded in biometric-enabled and other electronic travel documents” - aka, reads the technology side of the passports.

The machine reads the chip for tampering of information as well as logos, crests, laminates, ultraviolet images and other graphical patterns.

The ePassport Readers are already in numerous countries around the world. For more information see ePassport Readers.

Technology Dependent on Vacation

According to the Travel Industry Association (TIA), more travelers are taking technology with them than ever before.

The must-have cell phones topped the list at 86% - even higher than the memory-preserving digital cameras at 67%.

Almost a fourth lug around their laptops, and a fifth say they bring some tunes in the form of a CD player.

A surprising (to us) stat - 11% snag their MP3 or iPod players…although we’d venture that it’s a lot higher with younger travelers.

UK Passport Fees Increasing

This October, passport fees for 10-year adults will increase by 15 pounds, to 66 quid.

A child’s passport will be an additional 11 pounds, up to 45, and those who wish their passports to be expedited should expect a 108 pound fee.

The government claims this is the most secure passport ever, containing a microchip storing the image of the holder’s face, allowing for facial scans. More rigorous background checks and interviews are also expected.
