The Knee Defender: Protect Your Turf on the Airplane

girl_knee_pads.jpgOther than perhaps a bad wax job in the nether regions, there is little in this world worse than having the person in front of you on an airplane recline his seat all the way back into your lap. This is especially true if you are part of the 99% of the world’s population with legs that are too long for today’s modern, super cramped cattle herd-like airplanes. There is a device out there that can help prevent this and it could very well turn into your best friend while on …

A Classic Everest Adventure Trek in Nepal

everest9x.jpgAfter reading Into Thin Air, you couldn’t pay me enough to climb the world’s tallest mountain. I understand why some would want to experience all of the agony it takes to reach the summit, but I’d rather leave that challenge to others. That isn’t to say that I wouldn’t want to check out Mt. Everest in all her glory. Nepal itself is a fascinating country and one that offers some of the best trekking around, even if you aren’t a technical climber. The Classic Everest trek is one …

£0.01* Flights from London to Central Europe

asterik.JPGToday as I was pondering who the first person was to ever include the term *lol* in an email, I came across the latest offerings from our friends at Wizz Air. When flights between London and select destinations in Central Europe can be purchased for £0.01*, it is certainly no lol matter. As is usually the case with these types of deals, there is an * involved. This is the discount airlines’ contribution to Internet lingo. The * in this case simply means that the £ 0.01* deal …

Berlin Hotels and Hostels Deals

plan_germany_berlin_modern_sculpture_berlin_berlin.jpgI had the good fortune to spend a couple of months in Berlin, Germany this summer during the World Cup. The German capital is an electric city that is seemingly changing for the better each and every day. As you walk down the streets past some of the historic buildings and admire the pioneering modern architecture, you can’t help but be struck by the city’s mix of old and new. The energy in the air is fabulous as the people who live in Berlin are very aware of …

Mt. Kilimanjaro Marangu Route Tour

kilimanjaro.jpgThere is something about standing on the highest point on a continent that is attracting a lot of people to mountain climbing these days. It is an exhilarating feeling for sure, but it also is a lot of work and can be dangerous. Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa and it is also one of the more accessible big mountains in the world. Even with that being the case, you are well advised to use local knowledge to help you reach the summit.

The 7-day Marangu Route tour …

HLX Offering £5 Flights to Europe

taxi_ledge.jpgI’ll give the German discount airline Hapag-Lloyd Express (HLX) some credit for their slogan, “Fly for the price of a taxi.” Pretty clever, as are their airplanes painted taxi yellow. Most clever of all are the £5 tickets they have for sale right now to destinations throughout Europe. Fly from Newcastle to Hanover; Birmingham to Cologne/Bonn; Manchester to Hanover and Dublin to Stuttgart all for the price of a pint. Heck, while you are at it you can pop on over to Fucking, Austria and have yourself …

Cheap Tickets to Riga, Latvia on Air Baltic

air_baltic_aircraft3_500.jpgI’ll confess that flying on an airline that I don’t know much about like Air Baltic always makes my stomach a little nervous. I guess I am still trying to recover from a flight I took on Kazakh Air about a decade ago. I swear that various parts of the airplane fell off during the flight. A flight, I might mention, where I had to sit on the floor because it was overbooked. Thank god for the bottle of vodka the stewardesses passed around!

Somehow I think that …

Jet2 Offers Up Free Flights. Yes, that says Free

freebie-button.jpgNot to be outdone by the free tickets being peddled by Ryanair, Jet2 has launched their on free ticket sale. Simply pay the taxes and you can fly free to places like Amsterdam, Milan and Prague. I’m telling you folks, this time next year the discount airlines are going to be paying us to fly on them. In fact, I am thinking of quitting my job and becoming a full-time salaried passenger. I only hope they offer me a pension along with an extra bag of peanuts.

Lufthansa Flies to both Beijing and Peking

peking.jpgLoyal readers of this blog – thanks Mom, Dad – know that I have a certain affection for Lufthansa’s Ready to Fly? program. Each week they magically send me an email update for great offers and each week I dutifully check it out. Today, I received an email with an offer for a round-trip ticket from Frankfurt to Beijing for 299 Euro. Quite a nice little deal. When I clicked on the message and went to the Lufthansa site, I couldn’t help but notice that they …
