Buenos Aires is like Paris only it isn’t in France
If I had a quid for every city in the world that was described as being the “Paris of XXX”, I would be a rich man. There can only be one Paris, of course, and that is Paris, Texas, a small town in the United States.
Even though the Paris comparisons can be a bit annoying, there is usually something to be said for a city that is compared favorably to the French capital.
Buenos Aires is one of those cities with the Paris nickname. It is either the Paris of the South or the Paris of South America depending upon who you ask. The city of fair winds is, indeed, quite lovely and certainly deserves to be included in anyone’s list of the top cities in the world.
The biggest problem with Buenos Aires is getting there. It is far away and it is very rarely a destination to which you can find a cheap airfare. Right now Expedia is offering round-trip flights to the Argentine capital from London for £522. I know, that isn’t exactly cheap, but if you can muster the fare it will be well worth it. There is only one Paris in all of Argentina, after all, and it is Buenos Aires.
