Monica Lewinsky Slept Here

white-house.jpgIn many ways, Washington DC is a very un-American city. Washington is the center of the United States’ political world, but it is no mere provincial capital. For one thing, the city’s plan was designed by the French architect Pierre L’Enfant. When you walk down the capital mall and through some of the streets you will undoubtedly see some of the European influences. If you spend any time in the Georgetown district or near Embassy Row, you will hear languages from around the world.

The list of things to do and see while in Washington could go on for pages and pages. You’ll be best served if you spend a bit of time at the Smithsonian Museums, my personal favorites being the Air and Space Museum and the Holocaust Museum. Talking a stroll down Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown is also an excellent way to spend an afternoon. In addition to shopping at the various boutiques and sampling food from all over the world, you might also bump elbows with a famous politician or actor. Keep your eyes peeled for people wearing a hat and sunglasses and looking conspicuously like they don’t want to be recognized.

For evening fun, head on over to the Adam Morgan’s district and watch college kids get sloppy drunk, while trying to impress the future leaders of the free world with their intelligence and wit.

British Airways is the place to go at the moment for the best deals on cheap flights to Washington.
