Big savings to the Caribbean at the moment

Cuban guysSay what you will about Thomas Cook, but the guy does come up with some great deals from time to time. Case in point: ““Save up to £400 on Cuba & Dominican Republic holidays”

Of all the places to visit in the Caribbean I’m not sure the Dominican Republic would be near the top of my list, but Cuba has got to be interesting. We obviously can keep away from those insufferable Americans if we go there, and we can get the finest cigars in the world there for next to nothing. You’ll run into some Canadians there, but aside from their obsession with ice hockey, they aren’t all that bad.

And actually the Dominican Republic does have some excellent resorts, even if the country itself is a bit dodgy in places. At least they have cars that were manufactured after 1959 there. I’ve heard they also sell “Cuban” cigars there for much less than they do in Cuba itself. Of course they aren’t real Cuban cigars, but 99% of the people who try them couldn’t tell the difference anyway. This reminds me of the time I bought a Swiss watch while in Bali. For two quid I got a Rollex that would normally go about 5,000 times as much if it were manufactured in Switzerland, and actually kept time.
