Get off your Sofa and Fly to Sofia, Bulgaria
Posted By Bob On February 2, 2007 @ 6:23 pm In News | No Comments
Sofia, Bulgaria doesn’t get the respect it deserves. It is not that you hear a lot of people saying a bad thing about the Bulgarian capital, but rather that you don’t hear many people saying anything at all about it. We’re here to change that.
Sofia is a wonderful place for visitors. It remains one of the best bargains in all of Europe while still offering a level of cleanliness, beauty and charm that you often pay out the nose for in Western Europe.
Home to 1.2 million residents, it is ideally situated in the pretty Sofia Valley at the foot of the Massif Vitosha mountain. The city’s history dates back to antiquity and a stroll down its streets today will reveal an old charm that you won’t find many other places. Its historic landmarks include the 10-century Boyan Church, the Alexander Nevski Cathedral and the early Byzantine Church of St. Sophia. All of this is blended in with an Eastern European style that is alternatively drab and interesting.
One thing to keep in mind when you are in Bulgaria is that when people shake there head from side to side in what appears to be a “no” it actually means “yes”. And vice versa. That can lead to a bit of confusion but it is all part of the fun of being in one of Europe’s hidden jewels.
