Its historic landmarks include the 10-century Boyan Church, the Alexander Nevski Cathedral and the early Byzantine Church of St. Sophia. All of this is blended in with an Eastern European style that is alternatively drab and interesting.

One thing to keep in mind when you are in Bulgaria is that when people shake there head from side to side in what appears to be a “no” it actually means “yes”. And vice versa. That can lead to a bit of confusion but it is all part of the fun of being in one of Europe’s hidden jewels.
