It wasn’t long ago that Atlanta was a sleepy town in the southern part of the United States offering hardly any reasons for people to visit. My, how times have changed. Atlanta has rapidly grown into a major U.S. city and it has plenty to offer visitors from around the world.

A few things will initially strike anyone visiting Atlanta for the first time. The first is the city’s motorways. This is a city built for the automobile and as a result it has motorways that are as wide as the eye can see. The other thing you’ll likely notice is that once you leave the highways and get into the neighborhoods you’ll see that Atlanta is a city of trees. Oak trees line the streets everywhere making Atlanta one of the “greenest” cities in the country. Even with all those trees sucking in CO2 from all those cars the city’s air does see its share of smog, especially during the summer months when Atlanta becomes “Hotlanta”.

Atlanta does have a vibrant nightlife and some excellent restaurants. The city is very modern and lacking in historical landmarks – it is the only city in North America that has been destroyed by fire as an act of war.
