Pop a Cork in Ireland

cork.jpgA city that is named after the Irish word for “marshy place”, Cork, Ireland is much more than a swamp masquerading as a city. It is the second largest city in Ireland behind Dublin with 380,000 hearty souls living in Cork proper and in some people’s minds it is the true capital of Ireland.

For the visitor, Cork is a wonderful city. A stroll down the main street, St. Patrick Street, reveals wonderful architecture, excellent shopping and a nightlife that will leave you ready to pop a bottle cork or two. On the north side of the city is the famous Shandon church with a tower that looms over the city. Visitors are able to climb up to the tower and select people are given the opportunity to ring the bells. How brilliant is that?

Cork also has a happening cultural life with music, dance, theatre and film opportunities galore.

Flying to Cork and to all of Ireland is becoming increasingly affordable with the fares on Aerlingus being no exception. For insider tips on Cork and the country, do make a point to visit the Ireland Logue where you can learn about where to go and what to see when you visit that marvelous marshy place.
