Spin the Globe Cheap Destination of the Week: Tajikistan
On each Thursday from now until the end of time, I will spin the globe on my desk, stop it at a random location and track down the cheapest flight information around for that destination.
This week’s selection takes us to the heart of Central Asia, Tajikistan. A mountainous, landlocked country that suffered from a significant civil war following the breakup of the Soviet Union, Tajikistan isn’t on the radar of too many travelers, but it should be. The country is seriously beautiful and one of the last places to go where you won’t be running into tourists everywhere.
Tajikistan is not the easiest of countries to get to, but that is changing. There are direct flights from Moscow, Dubai and Istanbul to the capital, Dushanbe. You can also fly in from Afghanistan or take a train from the other Central Asian republics. None of these options are particularly cheap, but once you are in Tajikistan you can get by on next to nothing a day. Your best bet is to get in touch with the individual airline carrier for pricing options.
