vikingbarken.jpgWith nearly 60,000 students roaming its streets, Gothenburg, Sweden is the largest university city in all of Scandinavia. Wherever there are young people there is bound to be fun and Gothenburg is no exception.

Situated on one of the largest and finest harbours in Europe, Gothenburg has first and foremost been a maritime city. Because of this, it has a long history of welcoming people from both near and far. Today, the city is a modern industrial place that remains a vital cog in Sweden’s engine.

What does Gothenburg offer visitors?

There is the famous Liseberg amusement park with rides that will leave those Swedish meatballs you ate for lunch bouncing around for hours afterward. There is also splendid architecture, including Gothenburg’s City Museum. There is a rich music scene with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra known worldwide for its ability, while the death metal scene in Gothenburg is second to known.

And, of course, there are the students, who breathe life into the city and fill the cafes with talk of new intellectual discoveries. They also leave behind their books and as a result Gotenburg has some fine second hand bookstores.
