Cheap Flights to Delhi
Why go: The streets are packed with tower blocks, temples, forts, mosques, colonial mansions, shops, and food stalls. The traffic is a conglomeration of pedestrians, buses, mopeds, trucks, cars, rickshaws, cows, bullock carts, handcarts, and elephants. Passers-by are dressed in brightly colored clothing, somber business suits, and traditional orthodox Hindu and Muslim garb. You won’t be bored in Delhi.
Delhi is several cities merged together, and most of the sights are in Old Delhi, New Delhi, and South Delhi. Old Delhi is the 17th-century capital, Shahjahanabad, and has the Lal Qila (Red Fort), Jami Masjid (India’s largest mosque) colorful bazaars, and narrow winding alleys. By contrast, the primary attraction of New Delhi is the architecture around Rajpath and Rashtrapati Bhavan, official residence of the president of India. South Delhi, or Qutb Minar, is worth a visit to see the 72.5-meter high tower, built in the early 13th century, with a mosque at its base. India’s capital city is rich with history, architecture, and culture, and Delhi’s diverse heritage provides a showcase of art, performances, and crafts.
