Some call it Sin City due to its gambling (or gaming), 24-hour drinking laws and adult entertainment, but this neon-lit capital of Nevada has more churches per capita than any other city in America. Not surprisingly local government and promoters of tourism prefer to call it “The Entertainment Capital of the World”. Las Vegas is young. It was established as a railroad town in 1905, gambling was legalized in 1931 and the opening of Bugsy Siegel’s Flamingo Hotel on what would later become the Las Vegas Strip only took place in 1946. Today, most of the city’s major resort hotels can be found along a four-mile stretch of the Strip.

Las Vegas’s dining scene is zinging. Not only have celebrity chefs such as Wolfgang Puck moved in, but hotel buffets have become more elaborate (great for budget travellers wanting to fill up for the day).

When you get back home, couch potatoes can bask in Las Vegas’s star power. The city is inspiration for a slew of movies and television shows past and present.
