I’ve heard more than one person describe Venice as a city for lovers. I’ll admit that the first time I visited there I expected to see people making out all over the city and I feared that as a single guy I would have nothing to do and that I would be shunned for my singleness. I actually had myself a wonderful time and didn’t feel the wrath of couples at all.

The second time I visited Venice, I did so with a significant other. We took the gondolas, visited the museums, kissed under the moon, shared a single strand of spaghetti until our mouths met and the garlic on the table melted from the heat, and on and on. I chalk it up to the Venetian air.

The point of all this is that Venice is a wonderful vacation spot for both singles and couples. It is especially nice if you don’t go in the summer season when it is overrun by backpackers and tourists sporting the latest line of fanny packs.
