I’ve studied a thousand different languages and none of them are as difficult as Finnish. I swear, people in Finland must either be geniuses or they must just be very polite and pretend to understand one another. The language is that hard. Trust me.
The good news for people traveling to Finland is that the vast majority of the people who live there speak better English than you do. You know when you are watching the Simpsons and there is a joke but you don’t understand why it is funny, if you watch the same episode in English in a Finnish youth hostel they will not only understand the joke but they will be able to explain it to you in easy to understand English. That is a fact. I can’t make this stuff up.
There are, of course, nine thousand other reasons to visit Finland other than to receive an education in television cartoons. The country is amazingly clean, quite beautiful and you can do just about everything you want with a mobile phone. In fact, I think your mobile phone can teach you how to speak Finnish.
