Have you heard that Edinburgh is a more than a decent place to visit? It is true. Just ask the roughly 13 million people of visit Scotland’s capital each year. Not bad for a city with a population of just under half a million. In fact, Edinburgh is the second most visited city in the entire United Kingdom. Only London receives more visitors with cameras and fanny packs each year.

Why do so many people visit Edinburgh? In the summer there is the pull of the Edinburgh Festival, a month-long celebration that includes the Edinburgh Fringe (the largest performing arts festival in the world), the Edinburgh International Festival, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Outside of that month of fun in August there are still plenty of other reasons that Edinburgh is so attractive to guests. For one thing, it is simply an attractive city. The Old Town and the castle are straight out of Medieval times. Walk through the streets and you will feel like you have been transported back to another era.

The “New Tow” is hardly that too. Built in the 18th Century it is a compact ridge filled with architectural splendors and sights. It is almost like they designed it for tourists.

One final reason to visit Edinburgh is that it is fairly reasonable in terms of cost. You can hop on a cheap flight from Flybe and be there in no time. Stay at an [1] Edinburgh youth hostel and you’ll find that you will have plenty of money left over for beer and other forms of entertainment.
