Fuerteventura Holidays are Hot, Hot, Hot

fuerteventura.jpgThe Canary Islands island of Fuerteventura is one great adventure if you are to simply go by its name. The name of the island is believed to have come from the French explorer Jean de Bethencourt’s exclamation: “Que forte adventure!” (”What a grand adventure”). A less romantic explanation is that the name simply means “strong wind”.

I prefer the romantic explanation because a holiday in Fuerteventura can, indeed, be a grand adventure. Visitors flock to the island because of the renowned beauty of its beaches and its near perfect climate. The island is on the same latitude as Florida and Mexico and temperatures here rarely fall below 18°C or rise above 24°C. There are no fewer than 152 beaches along its coastline - 50 kilometres of fine, white sand and 25 kilometres of black volcanic shingle.

The trade winds help to make Fuerteventura a surfer’s paradise and a paradise for windsurfers, as well as for those who are interested in seeing some of the coolest sand dunes in the world. They also help to keep things cool even when they are hot.

Speaking of hot, there are some excellent deals on vacation packages to Fuerteventura. Go for the beaches, stay for the charms. Fuerteventura will be your kind of adventure.
