It doesn’t Cost much to fly to Banjul, The Gambia
Quick, how many of you know where The Gambia is located? Good, I see a few hands. You know that it is on the tip of western Africa. Now for the bonus question. What is the capital of The Gambia? I’m sure some of you are guessing Banjul because it is in the title of this post. You would be correct. Banjul is the capital of The Gambia.
Banjul is and its surrounding areas have about a half a million residents. The city was founded in 1816 as a trading post and as a base for the British to suppress the slave trade. It was originally named Bathurst after Henry Bathurst, the secretary of the British Colonial Office, but was changed to Banjul in 1973.
Banjul isn’t exactly on everyone’s list of places to visit and there aren’t a million tourist guides written about it. And that might be the best thing it has going for it. If you want to visit a pleasant place where there are no swarms of tourists and where you will be welcomed with open arms by the local residents, Banjul is right up your alley. If you want a place that is rather cheap to fly to, than Banjul should be in your future plans. If you want a place that your friends have never been and likely never will, head to Banjul. If you want an adventure and some sunshine and to discover the great unknown, Banjul, The Gambia is calling your name.
