Situated in the southwest of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is a delightful island nation for those who visit it. Originally founded as a Dutch colony, Mauritius changed hands from the French to the British until 1968 when it became an independent country. Today, Mauritius has one of the most stable governments in Africa and has one of the continent’s strongest economies.

Because of its diverse populace, Mauritius benefits from a number of different cultural influences. For example, the cuisine of Mauritius is a blend of Indian Cuisine, Creole, Chinese and European.
