Why would anyone ever want to go to Iran? I’ve been asked that question a few times before. My response is usually, “Why do you bother breathing?” Life is about living and sometimes it is about taking a path that is normally not taken.

There is no denying that Iran is a country that scares some people and that is all fine and good for those travelers who are more finely tuned to things in the Middle East. The fact is that Iran is a fairly remarkable country to travel in and it is one whose people will welcome you with open arms if you manage to make a trip there.

I’ve spent a bit of time in Tehran and I still can’t lay claim to knowing what exactly the city is all about. It is enormous, sprawling, and congested, yet it also is friendly, warm and quaint. A paradox, it is. It should also just be the starting point for your Iran travels. The country is big and it offers many sights to see once you are outside of Tehran. The more off the beaten path you go, the more likely you’ll end up being welcomed into someone’s home for tea and the more likely it is you’ll make new friends for life.

And that, my friends, is why you should go to Iran.
