Live, Love, Learn in Lisbon, Portugal

lisbon-01.jpgOne of Lisbon, Portugal’s claims to fame is that it is the westernmost capital in Europe. Another is that it is one of the coolest and funkiest cities on the continent. When you first arrive there one of the first things you will notice is the architecture. Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline, Baroque, Traditional Portuguese, Modern and Post-Modern constructions can be found all over the city and help the city feel like a veritable jigsaw of historic eras.

Beyond the physical beauty, there is a certain pulse to Portugal’s biggest city. The best way I can describe it is as being Bohemian. Even though there are people of all ages living in the city, the general impression you’ll get is that Lisbon is a city for young people. Hippie kids walk down the streets showing off a fashion that is carefree and casual. Funky shops and cafes can be found on the main boulevards and cool record shops line the side streets. All the while, the sun always shines in Lisbon and for many parts of the year it can be downright hot.

Lisbon used to be a cheap place to travel but as living standards have improved and its popularity has increased, so too have the prices. The good news is that you can still find decent deals on flights and hotels in Lisbon if you look closely or if you visit this blog at least 25 times a day.
