Staying in hotels you only meet other Americans. Hostelling means I meet interesting people from all over.

Stairs. I trashed my knee and can't walk them. Most hostels are upstairs, no lift.

How much fun they are.
- Do you ever book any of your hostel accommodation in advance?
Sometimes

I book to make sure I have a place at the hostel I want. if I'm travelling and don't know where/when I'll be, then I don't book.
- Who is the most memorable person you met in a hostel and why?
I'll let you know after this trip around SEA. some wonderful and intriguing folks so far.
- Why do you stay in hostels, as opposed to other types of accommodation?
Bang for the buck. For the amount you spend, you get a lot but especially you meet people from everywhere.
- What is the biggest myth people have about hostels and hosteling?
That hostels are boring, rundown and dishonest.

- What is your advice for other travelers wanting to stay in hostels?
Check out the ones you can online. Don't be afraid to try new ones.
